The Computer Centre of Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee was established in 1978 as RURCC (Roorkee University Computer Centre), which was catering to computational requirements of the entire region with DEC-2050 system. Tata Elxsi 3200 main frame computer was inducted in 1993 in place of obsolete DEC 2050. Later Alpha server – 400 & 1000 were procured to provide programming environment (C,C++) on Unix platform to users. This had enhanced the ambit of Computer Centre by providing programming environment along with computational requirement of the users. Induction of IBM RS -6000 mainframe was yet another step to provide different platforms for high end scientific computational work. Procurement of Param-10000 in 2000, brought the concept of parallel computing, which was significantly utilized by the research community.
