PARAM 10000

In a standard computer such as a PC, a single CPU executes the program instructions one by one. Although computers based on this architecture are capable of fast speeds, there are problems mainly simulation of natural phenomena, require massive computation which is not possible even at fastest standalone computer. One way to speed up calculations is to divide them among many CPU's and then use the parallel processing. in fact next generation PC's will all have multiple processors connected within the chip and share of common main memory.

PARAM AT IIT ROORKEE

Param 10000

A few years ago CDAC (Centre of development for Advanced Computing) identified about a dozen institutions where they could install their PARAM 10000 Supercomputers. IIT Roorkee (formerly University of Roorkee) was one of the premier institutions slated to receive PARAM 10000. The PARAM 10000 has 8 Ultra Sparc CPU’s.Its architecture supports parallel and distributed computing.Suited to perform very heavy computational jobs. Used in various fields such as Mechanical & Industrial, Electrical, Chemistry, Electronics & Computer Engg., Mathematics, Biotechnology, Computer, Physics.
